ACHS is proud to present Chris Miller, son of Tim and Amanda Miller and brother of David and Marie, as our Final Rotary Student of the Month and only our 2nd ever male!

Chris is an extraordinary student at Alcorn Central through academics, community involvement, and extracurricular activities and who is always positive and willing to get involved.  Let’s start off with Chris’s academic achievements.

His freshman year he received 1st place awards in MS Studies, STEM, Health, Biology, and English I. He also competed with FBLA and received a 1st place in Business Math at the District level and then went on to State and placed 4th in Business Math, not bad for a 15 year old!

His Sophomore year Chris received 1st place awards in Algebra III, English II, World History, and Anatomy and Physiology. He then competed again with FBLA and received a 1st place in Banking and Financial Systems at the District level and then went on to State and placed 4th in Banking and Financial Systems, not bad for a 16 year old!

His junior year he received 1st place awards in Chemistry and Dual Enrollment College Algebra.   He was also Top 10 at the Northeast Math and Science Competition. He then competed, ….yet again with FBLA and received a 4th place in Entrepreneurship at the State level and then went on to Nationals and placed in the Top 15 in Entrepreneurship! I’m beginning to sense a pattern! That is awesome! I know the State competitions were held in Jackson, where were Nationals held?

Chris has had to work hard to receive these 1st places and FBLA accolades and it has paid off because Chris is our Valedictorian for the 2017-2018 school year! And the 1st male valedictorian since I have been the counselor. I suppose we should mention his ACT score since isn’t too shabby, it starts with a 3 and ends with a 4! That’s a 34, for those of you that weren’t paying attention.

But there is more to Chris than just academics, he participates in numerous clubs at ACHS!

He has been a member of the Student Government Association from 2015-present and has been the President 2016-2018, He has been in Beta Club for 4 years and served as Treasurer the last 3 years.

Chris has been a member of FBLA all four years of high school and has served and Vice President and President in the past.

He has been a member of the Principal’s Student Advisory team for the last two years, has been active on the Academic Team all four years and been in Math club since 2014 and has served as President since 2016. You certainly should be used to holding offices! I guess as President you get to rub elbows with the celebrities!

Chris has received a number of honors and awards while in high school: He was selected as the DAR Good Citizen, he attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, he has been a member of the Junior Leadership Alcorn, attended HOBY- Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar, participated in the Trent Lott Leadership Conference and attended the APEX Leadership Summit. Do you suppose someone in the high school office has been grooming you for greatness????

Now let’s talk about service oriented activities.  Chris has been involved with

•         Rotary club Food Basket

•         Rotary 5k Run

•         Campus Clean-up- so what did you clean?

•         Community Connections Mentoring Program

•         Blood Drive volunteer

•         Relay for Life

•         Children’s Miracle Network LeBonheur Childrens Hospital

•         Little League Basketball

OK, now it’s time for sports! Chris has played basketball for ACHS 9-12 grades and Golf for the last two years.

In basketball Chris received the Athletic Achievement award and Most Assists Award in 2017. And the team received the MHSAA Scholar Athlete Team 2016 & 2017. So tell me about golf…

So What’s next?  After Chris graduates high school, he intends to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering and then go to Med School. He has already been accepted to the University of Alabama-Birmingham but isn’t there another school that you are waiting to hear from….…..

Chris has got it going on and is planning on going places! We are so proud to have him representing Alcorn Central as our Final Rotary Student of the month.
